Want to Increase Your Executive Presence? Learn to Be Intentional.
Presence is an outward expression of who you are as a person. Yet, it is more than making a good first impression. It is elusive but we know it when we meet someone with presence.
Coaching has allowed me a way of reaching inside my clients and helped them be clear of they what they want and who they want to be. This affects how we show up every single day and moment. You will then be purposeful in your Appearance, Behavior and Communication. It is an intentional effort.
When we are intentional, we make things happen rather than wait for things to happen, we respond positively to situations, especially negative situations instead of reacting compulsively. When you show up, you are fully present.
According to Kristi Kedges, author of “The Power of Presence”, presence starts in the head. Therefore be clear on who you are and what you stand for. One of the characteristics of Executive Presence is authenticity. Unless you know who you are and what you stand for, you may end up “faking” too much and be seen as less than credible.
Secondly, decide what is the message you want your presence to convey in various situations. Hold those thoughts as your mental aim when you step into each of those meetings and interactions. When you are able to evoke the desired emotion in the people you meet, you can be sure that your presence is experienced.
