Starting 2017 with A Dream
I had a dream. Literally. Strange that I remember this dream so clearly.
In my dream, I was in a race, running on sand. I learned that running on sand was no walk in the park. Instead of moving forward, I struggled with every sinking step. I recalled seeing people crossing the finishing line, waving frantically at me, encouraging me to press on.
Every step required tremendous effort. I also noticed that I was carrying pillows and bolsters that hindered my movement. (Sounds funny, I know!) I woke up and prayed about the meaning of the dream.
One revelation came as a result of praying and reflecting – I needed to relinquish some of the things I am holding on dearly in order to complete my earthly race. The second revelation – the pillows and bolsters are things of comfort. I do need to let go of my comfort zones to fulfill the plans and purposes of my life.
Two things I am taking away from this dream for my brand new year.
1) Be Focused. We sometimes want to do too many things at one time. I’m not just referring to the daily multi-tasking. In life, we sometimes try to accomplish too many goals and end up being nowhere. Instead of single-mindedly chopping down a tree, we throw the axe at 10 trees. We get tired, discouraged when we don’t see the results. One at a time. We get excited when we see our focused efforts bearing fruits.
2) Be ready to move out of comfort zones. Take a little risk and dare to explore areas that we’ve not tried. Learn new skills, make new friends, take small steps to get that comfort out of the things that we are comfortable. You will be surprised that you accomplish goals that you never thought you could!
How are you starting your brand new year?
From me to you. Happy New Year.
